Virtual desktop infrastructure or Vdi is a form of desktop vitualization. Virtual desktop infrastructure or Vdi is designed to give the system administrators and the end users the best of both worlds which is allowing the system administrators to host and centrally manage desktop virtual machine from the data centre while still giving the end users the full PC experience that they understand and already know how to use. The end user experience is designed to be identical to that of a standard PC. Companies and their employees traditionally have two separate needs. The companies need a controlled `locked down` environment in which to limit the users ability to alter or change the system itself whereby the users need flexibility to install or change their applications to conform to their own needs of their position. With increased demand to work from home or from remote locations, Vdi also gives users the ability to access their normal desktop from other locations. With more and more employees working form home, I think employees will be happier as a result of controlling their own time and consequently more productive. Also, costs will be minimised with offices needing to be smaller with less employees working out of them.
